Susan’s Story

Susan, a single mom with 2 daughters, came to Family Promise homeless and broken. She recently lost her job and then her home. She sent her daughters to stay with other family members while she spent most nights in her car. Exhausted from all of this, she finally reached out to Family Promise for help. One kind case manager talked with her and connected her to Rapid Rehousing, a rent assistance and case management program.

A giant weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
— Susan, Former Guest

It took a while for Susan to find housing, getting discouraged by the limited availability of apartments that she could afford. Finally, a housing opportunity presented by the case manager became her best option and she jumped on it. The landlord appreciated the support that she was going to receive from Family Promise and gave her the keys to a two-bedroom apartment that she still calls home today.

It didn't take long for the family to settle into their new home and Susan to become a whole new person. It was like a giant weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Susan has since obtained full-time employment and recently signed up for Business Management classes at a local technical college. Now that they are stably housed, Susan is able to focus on the health of her family. They still have their struggles, but things are much better thanks to the support from Family Promise.
